The Unlawful Taking of Identity Cards from Israeli Residents
HaMoked – Center for the Defence of the Individual demanded the Ministry of the Interior cease collecting identity cards from permanent residents of Israel who wish to receive permits to enter the Gaza Strip and to return ID cards which have already been taken. This conduct by the Ministry of the Interior is illegal, as the law does not permit the Ministry's clerks to take ID cards except in cases listed in the Population Registry Law. Following HaMoked's intervention, the ID cards were returned to their owners and the policy was cancelled.
