In response to the objections against the intended punitive demolition of four homes in East Jerusalem: the military clings to its position and argues that the demolitions "establish effective deterrence toward potential terrorists"

Yesterday, November 24, 2014, the military delivered its responses to HaMoked's objections to the intended punitive demolition of the family homes of the suspected shooter of right wing activist Yehuda Glick and assailant in the vehicle attack at the Shim'on Ha-Tsadik station of the Jerusalem Light Rail.

The military claims that the "escalation in the security situation in Jerusalem in the recent period, culminating in the recent vehicle attacks, shooting and stabbing, as well as the current assessment as to the efficacy of the deterrence in said cases, establish the foundation required for exercising the power entrenched in Regulation 119 of the [Defence (Emergency) Mandate-era] Regulations".

The military therefore announced it would not retract its decision to demolish the homes: the apartment in which lived the suspected shooter – located on the ground floor of a two-storey house in Abu Tor neighborhood – would be partially demolished and partially sealed; the apartment where the perpetrator of the vehicular attack had lived – on the upper floor of a three-storey building in Shu'fat refugee camp – would be demolished completely.

The military further announced that the sealing and demolitions would be carried out on November 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.

Today, November 25, 2014, the military also rejected the objections filed on behalf of the families of two assailants from Jabel Mukaber who perpetrated the attack at the synagogue in Har Nof in Jerusalem; The apartment where lived one of the assailants will be demolished completely; in the other apartment, only the section in which the assailant had lived will be demolished.

The military further announced that these two demolitions would be carried out on November 27, 2014, at 12:00 noontime.

HaMoked intends to petition the High Court of Justice in all four cases.
