Following media reports that in the past week, the military arrested hundreds of Gaza Strip Palestinians and transferred them into Israel, and given the turmoil in Gaza caused by the ongoing fighting, HaMoked sent today
an urgent letter to the State Attorney's Office.
As an organization long involved in tracing detainees and protecting their rights, HaMoked regards it as its duty to replace the families of the detainees in this dire hour and discover the detainees' identity and whereabouts.
HaMoked stresses that under the laws which prevail also during fighting, notification of a person's arrest and whereabouts is vital for the protection of his or her basic rights; further, that the present situation, of people being held incommunicado for over five days and nights, is unacceptable and must be amended.
