Compensation Demand – Complaint of Mrs. Askafi regarding theft during a search of her house in Hebron
After the Defence Ministry decided to close the file opened ensuing a Palestinian's claim that soldiers stole jewelry worth thousands of shekels and caused damage to her home on the claim that no such search had been conducted, HaMoked demanded to receive the investigation file. A review of the file reveled that the file had been closed owing to unacceptable motivations, lack of examination of the details, and failure to pursue substantial investigative lines. Following HaMoked's intervention the decision to close the file was reversed and the complainant underwent a lie detector test which revealed she was truthful regarding both the theft and the search. She received compensation for the jewelry and her mental anguish.
